IQNA – Yamin al-Maqayyid is a Palestinian child living in Beit Lahia, the Gaza Strip.

Gaza’s little muezzin Yamin al-Maqayyid

Every day, Yamin, who has become known as the little muezzin, recites the Adhan (call to prayer) from the balcony of his house.

He is serving as a muezzin in a town whose mosques have been destroyed in the Israeli regime’s genocidal war.

Beit Lahia is among the first towns in Gaza the Zionist forces entered and destroyed after the start of the war on October 7.

The Zionist army has destroyed many of the town’s mosques, houses and infrastructures.

Yamin says he is proud to recite Adhan and remind his neighbors of the time for prayers.

The idea to recite Adhan came to him after realizing that the Zionists have destroyed all of the mosques in his neighborhood.

As there were no more minarets and no more muezzins to perform the call to prayer, he decided to do it from home.

He hopes he can soon recite Adhan at Al-Aqsa Mosque in the holy city of al-Quds after its liberation.

Muhammad al-Maqayyid, Yamin’s father, is also proud of his son, saying that by destroying mosques, the occupiers cannot stop Palestinians from reciting Adhan.

He also stresses that he people of the Gaza Strip will stay in the coastal enclave despite intense Israeli strikes and will rebuild Gaza.
